Karl Rove, Hell Bound. If there was a place like Hell, Karl Rove would have a special level all to himself. He's smug, arrogant, full of hatred for those “beneath” him, and he is putting the lives of people at risk everyday. No, i… [Eat Your Vegetables]

i wish i could believe that the justice department would follow through and prosecute the person that put our national security in jeapordy in this case, but you know they probably will not even though everyone knows that this is a felony, and the evidence seems to be very clear, and the action is reprehensible, it is still someone that you have lunch with and someone who will probably get you a job once you are out of office, etc. in short, i suspect the old boys network wins out on this one.

oh btw, yes revealing the names of cia operatives does always endanger national security.

A show of hands, please.

Sheila, Dan and others are all over the black box voting situation. My vote: open it all. Voting tech needs to be transparent, and countable. If that means paper, or cardboard, or snaf, or whatever, we just have to deal with it.

Game Documentaries. Hmm…. Jason Scott, Boingboing's current guest blogger, pointed me to two documentaries on games I hadn't known about. I just ordered both. Gamers: Clans Mods and a Cultural Revolution is about Counterstrike and its players. Avatars Offline is about MMG players. Jason also points to The Joystick Generation, about the early days of digital games, but it doesn't seem to be out yet. [Games * Design * Art * Culture]

Diebold controversy.

Declan McCullagh's Politech pointed to an article on the Daily Kos concerning Diebold. Seemingly Diebold forced a website, BlackBoxVoting.org, offline. The domain now appears to be back on, though resolving to a different URI (http://www.talion.com/blackboxvoting.org.htm) – I am unsure whether this is a new development. According to the site:

After 15,000 internal memos were leaked, Diebold tried to force www.blackboxvoting.org to shut down, claiming copyright because of a LINK on the site, but also sent a cease & desist letter to Global Free Press demanding removal of a search engine which quickly and easily finds information in the memos.

Diebold, for those who may be unaware, is a major operator of electronic voting systems. Their CEO hit headlines (in alternative outlets and here on funferal) earlier in the year when he committed himself, at a fundraising event, to delivering Ohio's votes for Bush next year….

been there, done that, it's interesting enough until you reach the point of interaction where suddenly everything changes and the digitized content isn't in a form that can be easily transformed, but then i'm not a librarian, i'm more of a researcher and producer in this area.
