OSU Position Statement on National Security Strategy. The other day, Beth Hewett sent me the following email, asking that I post it here:

The College of Humanities at the Ohio State University invites you to read their
position statement in response to the National Security Strategy of the United
States of America and the National Strategy for Homeland Security. Their
rationale for developing this analytical response was “to make clearer the
benefits of consistently incorporating humanities knowledge and expertise in
public policy making in order to rectify what we see in the two national
documents as conceptual–if not ethical–problems.” The document is available
on line:

Very few things make me really happy, but my research center is one of them. Today I found the materials that the center for digital discourse and culture hosts is cited the world book encyclopedia online, previously i had known it was used in the britannica online, but another encyclopedia is always good. It is also found in Introduction to International Relations by Oxford University Press. It has also been used in reports to the U.N. and many other places. too many to list, but still it amazes me how many people use these materials worldwide. so you ask what are we talking about we are talking about around 270gb plus or minus of materials on any given day, but covering such a broad range of material, from theory, to governance, to art, to history, to literature and more, just alot of archived material that seems to be important to people. Have to thank Tim and Len for being the directors, and Deans that have supported it also.

Version 2 lets you select any folder on a hard drive as a backup destination, including FireWire hard drives, network servers, iPods, and other mounted volumes. It also offers support for support for third-party CD and DVD Drives and lets you schedule backups to iDisk and hard drives–with support for incremental backups (i.e., copying changed files only). It requires Mac OS X 10.2.6 or later and requires a full .Mac account.” [The Macintosh News Network] [Universal Rule]

fixed macromedia

ok, i admit it, i use dreamweasle to maintain some sites….. i also use bbedit and pico to maintain other sites, and when you get me in a bad mood i just might run a site through a shell script or two just to mess with ya, but nonetheless, after my 10.3 upgrade i found today that nothing macroshmedia worked. i clicked, it bounced, then closed, so i checked the console, found the 'authentication service' error and googled finding the site below which told me what i needed to do and voila, it worked. so if you are having problems with macrovision from macromedia, a clearly malengineered product, then go to /Library/Preferences and get rid of the macrovision directory. then the authentification service will require a new one and everything works.

all this cause i told Charles that I would update the internet ethics site with Elizabeth's and his work.
