Young student’s documentary leaving audiences stunned
KOMO-TV – Video – Video – Young student’s documentary leaving audiences stunned:
Kiri Davis is a young filmmaker whose high school documentary has left audiences at film festivals across the country stunned — and has re-ignited a powerful debate over race.

Racism is all around along with other forms of bigotry. It is a cultural phenomenon and should be addressed through the media, the schools, and other appropriate means including laws.

The Montgomery-Finkelstein debate about why Wikipedia may not be what you think it is.

is this what wikipedia is, or is that? wikipedia is an organization of parts that cannot work together, but because of the temporal arrangement of information in relation to the parts projection of their ego-knowledge structures, things get built… that which is not disputed, does not anger, or otherwise offend … tends to stay in wikipedia… the rest ends up filtering out… leaving this bland bit of pseudo-knowledge which stands in place of actually having an opinion.

revenge for sale in sl?
*** “SWEET REVENGE” ***
Have you been dumpted, hurt, betrayed by SL partners, boyfriends, girlfriends, friends etc.? Are you considering leaving the game? STOP READ ON!
Sweet Revenge is an SL company set up to help those in that situation. We have no magic wands to repair broken relationships, but we can help you to feel well by providing a revenge service.
Why let him/her walk away laughing?
I can tell you that from bitter experience, having the last laugh does improve your feelings. See them for the scum they are! Watch as the boot is on the other foot. For once in your relationship you will be in control and feeling good.
We do NOT operate a hit squad. We soley provide a service to those who have been wronged.
Our fees are negotiable.
We also provide FREE counselling, and mediation. Or just a shoulder to cry on! Our services are available to all.

This seems to sort of indicate the double nature of second life… on one level it is all about the social interaction… on the other level it is a few thousand little egos looking for love or satisfaction of some sort. When things don’t work out, they do not always act wisely…

well i broke down and did it
I ordered a new macbook from apple under my own name. It has been years since I’ve purchased a computer for myself, as virginia tech has provided adequate resources. Pratt gave me a nice desktop too, don’t get me wrong, it arrived a month or so into my first term of teaching. I really need a laptop though and more than that, I need my own laptop. I was hoping to run a grant through Pratt and order a laptop through them, but it does not look like I’ll be staying here for long, so that would not work out. Currently, I am using Virginia Tech’s laptop and I need to send it in for repairs, so I ordered a new one.

Vanishing Clubs, Coalescence, and All That Jazz
Vanishing Clubs, Coalescence, and All That Jazz:
“The Blue Note is closed until further notice. The Blue Note Group has decided to pursue purchasing our own sim. Any donations towards a sim should be made to Naydee McGettigan.” At this time, it’s still unknown what exactly caused the entire club to disappear, but let this be a warning to all club owners: keep copies of your place, just in case.

Blog for Choice
Blog for Choice:
Today is Blog for Choice day, and the good folks sponsoring the event have asked us bloggers to write about why we’re pro-choice. It’s a terrific idea, and I expect the intertubes will be flooded today with excellent posts listing all the reasons to support women’s reproductive freedom.

The ability to determine what goes on in ones own body, with ones own body… the control of ones own body is a basic and fundamental human right. that means fundamentally that the woman’s right to her body, will always supersede the rights of the fetus that exists within her. end of story.

With Everybody Protecting The Kids, Who Protects The Adults?
With Everybody Protecting The Kids, Who Protects The Adults?:
There are a lot of fingers being pointed at the likes of MySpace as politicians look to score points by “protecting the children” from their evils. But who’s protecting the adults? A story out of Buffalo, New York, paints a rather bizarre tale of an online love triangle gone bad. Apparently a 47-year-old man in the area was posing online as an 18-year-old Marine, and had some sort of relationship stretching over a year or two with what he thought was an 18-year-old woman. She turned out to be a 40-something lady from West Virginia.
