New Scientist Breaking News – Why it is hard to share the wealth
New Scientist Breaking News – Why it is hard to share the wealth:
They found that while the income distribution among the super-wealthy – about 3% of the population – does follow Pareto’s law, incomes for the remaining 97% fitted a different curve – one that also describes the spread of energies of atoms in a gas (see graphic).
—————
this fits my argument about most power law analysis… they ignore the facts to fit the curve, sure they seem to fit the curve, once the data is ignored, when analyzed more precisely using more representative indicators the power law thesis tends to collapse.

The New York Times > Opinion > Op-Ed Columnist: The Debt-Peonage Society
The New York Times > Opinion > Op-Ed Columnist: The Debt-Peonage Society:
Warren Buffett recently made headlines by saying America is more likely to turn into a “sharecroppers’ society” than an “ownership society.” But I think the right term is a “debt peonage” society – after the system, prevalent in the post-Civil War South, in which debtors were forced to work for their creditors. The bankruptcy bill won’t get us back to those bad old days all by itself, but it’s a significant step in that direction.
