CONTROLLING SCIENTIFIC INFORMATION: This guy isn't happy about it. I tend to agree. I don't mind classifying particular bits of… [Instapundit.com]
in my opinion, unless the government is sponsoring science in its own labs, outside of other considerations, the science should be open and without infringement. giving money does not give ownership of information, it just gives access to information. this should be clear.

'Mickey Mouse' degree courses targeted [Ananova: News]
it seems clear to me that this is a new form of academic fascism brought about by the interest of capital.

Combining the aggregated reading habits of the blog community collected by All Consuming with bookmarklets and an RSS feed, the author conducted an experiment to search for the availability of blog-popular books at local libraries. “By the end of the day, the technique was verified to work with many libraries in the United States. What's more, it had mutated. Reports came in from around the world about adaptations that worked with library systems from other vendors.” link via post atomic [MetaFilter]

Credit where credit is due, an email friend pointed out this story from Conrad's cool blog called Gweilo Diaries. Leave it to the Aussies to be doing breakthrough reseach in Alpha Male innovation.
This would be extremely popular at Fenway Park. Hey, maybe I could start a whole new business. Calling all Venture Capitalists — come on guys, give me a few million dollars and you can help me select members of my wenching staff. I'm 100% behind John Doerr's belief that it's all about building an expert team.
[Feminists, don't gag. There will be more coming for you soon. I'm getting sick of this too.]
