Old school. San Francisco State University is fucked, according to this internal memo. [Fucked Company]

not much you can say about this, other than it will keep happening until someone decides that there is just too much at stake.

Finally, getting rid of the clunker

i've had a 1984 chrysler town and country station wagon for a very long time, since 1992, when my aunt and uncle gave it to me. it ran fine right up until the last year more or less, but then i bought i truck. I tried in january to get some guys to take it off my hands, and finally i managed to do that. They'll come pick it up tomorrow at 8am, and that is one less thing that i have to think about. it will be gone.

update: it is gone, they came about 7:50am and rolled it up on the flatbed, i had that car for 10 years, and put a sum of 30k miles on it.

it isn't tha amazing in the end. it just goes to show how surreal a world information technology is that people didn't even imagine there were at least two genders to hire.

Invention as social process. Centre for the Study of Invention and Social Process – Sociology Department, Goldsmiths College, University of London

Rather than take the identity of social and material entities as given and foundational, the concept of invention points to the way in which persons and objects should be understood in terms of temporality in general and novelty in particular, through, for example, notions of life, duration and process. This orientation connects the interests of the Centre in science, technology and art with questions of identity and the body, ethics and politics.

If I weren't going to be in Dublin, I would be attending this event:

Wednesday May 5th 2004
4:00pm – 6:00pm, Seminar Room, 12th Floor Warmington Tower
WORKSHOP ON SOCIOLOGY AND DESIGN
With Martin Wooley, John Wood, Celia Lury, Andrew Barry and Alex Wilkie

Thanks Alex!

Graduate Students and Technology.

. . . . How much technical knowledge/ability should we require our graduate students to have[?]

 . . .

. . . . Many philosophy departments dropped their language requirements over the last decade or so – maybe it's time to reinstate something similar.

[Thoughts Arguments and Rants] [A blog doesn't need a clever name]

these are skills that people should have graduating college… not just graduate students.
