Reading between the lines. The NEA has released a disturbing–but not surprising–report on the reading habits of Americans. Entitled “Reading at Risk: A Survey… [Critical Mass]

administration's anti-family agenda is actually quite clear
well, once again, someone in the u.s. has done the morally wrong thing in the guise of legality. a 16 year old was deported away from her parents and isn't allowed to return.
the only families they seem to support are the once with a net worth over a million.

Corruption, Bloody Corruption. The story has been bouncing around the web for months, but the New Republic has now brought it out into the mainstream. It seems that after two plus years of passivity in the hunt for Bin Laden, and chasing after mirages in the Iraqi sands, the Bush administration has been telling the government of Pakistan repeatedly and in strong terms that it would like a July Surprise—a capture of one or more major Al Qaeda figures, ideally timed to take all the air out of the Democratic convention. Yes, it’s nice that the administration is finally getting serious about catching the real villains, although it’s rather late. And yes, it is rage-inducing that nothing, simply nothing, is too significant, or a matter of national honor, to be twisted and sullied by Rovian manipulation. If the US has indeed pressured a foreign government in the hopes that their capture of a major national enemy should be delayed, or timed, so that this administration could milk it for domestic political gain, I am prepared to discuss whether we should amend the Constitution to reinstate the punishment of corruption of blood so we can apply it to the Bush clan…. a good solution is different
instead of detraditionalizing yet one more thing, they should just seize the old lawyers property and turn it into museum about backdoor donuts. that way he would have something to complain about, and it wouldn't be the tradition.

Australia Creative Resource Online. Australia Creative Resource Online, a project funded by the Australian government, has launched its pilot site. Their aim is to create a digital junkyard, and have articulated a very compelling economic argument as to why this should exist. Currently, they are taking submissions for content, and are even willing to (selectively) digitize your content for free. They plan to go live in September, and will use Creative Commons Australia licenses. [Creative Commons: weblog]

What's at Stake? Our Supreme Court. We're not alone in our belief that the greatest impact the 2004 President will have is in picking Supreme Court Justices. The Boston Globe reports that the new President will select up to four new Justices. Few believe the present… [TalkLeft: The Politics of Crime]

yep, he should be suspended.
it is disappointing to say the least, that vick jr. could not and would not wake up and smell the coffee. one crime is an issue, two and you are a criminal. criminals should not be playing football.

DVT. Instead of preparing course guides and reading dossiers I'm blogging! But the recent quietness here was a coincidence of school holidays with my children, returning from a very very quick trip to Switzerland, and managing to get Deep Vein Thrombosis on the return flight, specifically London to Singapore. Now it turns out that DVT can be life threatening, so when I presented myself to the doctor a day and a half after the flight with some of the symptoms I was sent off to hospital immediately. while on a plane, imagine you have a newborn, wake up every 2 hours, wander around for a bit, go to the bathroom, etc.
