Your boss could own your Facebook profile | The Register :
“The basic law is that if you create copyright material, something you write or type into a computer, you take photographs, you do cartoons, you potentially create film, if that is created in the course of your employment then the assumption is that that belongs to your employer, so that doesn’t have to be written down by your employer,” she said.

I don’t have a facebook profile… but either way, my boss doesn’t own them because my boss has banned facebook access!
“in the course of” is rather different than “at work when you should be doing something else”. I wonder if I write a novel at work while doing my job, if the employer owns it. Now, what if I write a song or poem in my head, while delivering mail. And I become famous, and I say “I wrote that while delivering mail” on David Letterman. Can Canada Post (or whatever you have in the United Theocracy of Mercia) claim it? Not likely.
Now, you may ‘own’ yours, but what, in the end, does that mean?
