Teachers not staying in the profession, report finds:
To stem the flow, districts must first determine the annual turnover rate and then focus on hiring well-prepared teachers who have a clear understanding of content, curriculum and how to manage a classroom, Carroll said.

and carroll would be wrong. to stem the flow, we must address the lack of respect and trust that we put in teaching professionals, we need to ensure that they have a solid middle class lifestyle, can be happy teaching, and aren’t working 14 hour days.

Is that guy being willfully obtuse?
Or perhaps carroll has missed the MAIN point. First we need to “ensure that they have a solid middle class lifestyle, can be happy teaching, and aren’t working 14 hour days” we need to be “hiring well-prepared teachers who have a clear understanding of content, curriculum and how to manage a classroom”.
The interesting thing is I think that the problem is deeper. We don’t respect learning or learners. We marginalize children, and just want them warehoused and really in prisions. And schools are places of institutionalization. Merely paying teachers well isn’t actually enough.
Teaching and learning must become de-instutionalized and re-integrated with the community. IMHO of course.
Jason, have you been reading Foucault again?
