disappointing coverage, disappointing leadership

why is USATODAY quoting Grover Norquist about gay marriage? he is not an elected official, he has no say other than he seems to be herding both the bush administration and the republican congress in ways that are probably not beneficial to our nation. in short, the man has no qualification nor clue as to the best path, yet he is not just being listened to but promoted by a major newspaper. I say it is shameful.

beyond that, either people are equal or not. if people are equal then they have equal rights, all the rights are equal, this includes the right to state sanctioned marriage, though other sanctioned marriages are up to their sanctioning group…. If people are not equal and do not have equal rights, then this isn't the United States, but is some perversion of it, and the people pushing it farther in that direction need to be resisted. In short, i think the massachusettes court did the right thing for the united states. it said, more or less that people are equal and have equal rights.

if they try to take away equality through constitutional amendment, there will be major problems.

but that is just my opinion.

CTO Conference on “Implementing the WSIS Action Plan”.

The Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation is organising a follow-up conference to the World Summit on the Information Society (WSIS) focusing on ãImplementation and Best Practicesä from 25-26 March 2004 in Nairobi, Kenya.

The conference will have the following objectives:

  • Understanding and reviewing leading thinking and strategies on best practices, which can be shared between key member groups. Review how other stakeholders are going to approach similar goals and strategic objectives.
  • How to develop action plans which cascade through the supply chain.
  • Reviewing the role of stakeholder alliances between government, not for profit organisations/NGOs and the private sector, reviewing key case studies materials throughout the world, including a focus on procurement and the supply chain.
  • Uncover the challenges and opportunities of developing Private Finance Initiatives.
  • Assess how joint cross-border initiatives like skills and capacity building can work. Is there a common roadmap to developing ãe-citizenä communities.
  • Share common challenges on modernising Government agendas in relation to WSIS. Assess what external tools and resources exist which can support stakeholders in this endeavour.
  • How to enhance private sector investor commitment.

support the creation of the bush files

Ron Suskind posts government public domain documents online.

Government documents supplied by Former Treasury Secretary Paul O'Neill to Pulitzer Prize-winning journalist and author Ron Suskind for his book, The Price of Loyalty, are now available online. The site makes use of the Creative Commons public domain mark.

These documents, drawn from a collection of 19,000 files, are called “The Bush Files” and Suskind is encouraging other administration officials to contribute to the database, “to encourage more productive, fact-based public dialogues,” as stated on the website.

because if we don't they will surely be editted by the administration to make it look to history as if he has not been one of the worst presidents of all time.

Whiners. On one of the Dean mailing lists I belong to some Dean supporters have been
expressing the opinion that if Dean drops out and Kerry wins the nomination they
will not be voting for him in the Fall. They have said things like that

i personally fail to see how Dean is anyway different than the other major candidates in terms of any real quality. i don't see how supporting him takes back the democratic party, in fact, i'd say it just pushes the moderate core further to the right. if you want to take back the democratic party then you should be supporting kucinich, someone with some progressive roots.

Internet Communication and Harassment
For the second time in six months, another friend of mine called to tell me about a terrible email from a student. The first situation happened to a friend of mine in the US, where a student harassed her via email and tried to convince of her of how terrible she was at teaching. She was the instructor for the course.

tracy makes important points in this blog entry. I won't reiterate them, but I would not put up with students acting like this, and I agree it is harrassment, and the students need to know what is wrong with it. If there are issues with teaching, students need to know that they have a way of handling it, usually a note to the department head or class supervisor will generate the reasonable response of a peer review, whereas the harrassment method is completely inappropriate.

you just never know about some people

Jason Nolan was in the audience for one of those early Demics gigs and years later, took to on Larry's stage himself as a member of popular alt-punk outfit Heart of Darkness.

…..
jason says that if i'm going to embarrass him with history, i should link to the music that he says he absolutely loves and wishes to one day join on stage
